It’s more than a musical. It’s a boisterous, interactive celebration of things that make life sweet: music, laughter, camaraderie, beer.

“It” is The Choir of Man, a production that lit up London’s West End upon its October 2021 opening. Both the 2021 run and the Choir’s 2022 return to the West End’s Arts Theatre were extended by popular demand.

The Choir is coming to the Straz Center’s Jaeb Theater in October for its only U.S. engagement of 2023. You can turn the show into your own party by buying out one of the performances.

Having a performance for just your group of 10 or more catapults you into exclusive rock star territory with personalized service from Straz Center staff, customizable catering and the opportunity to witness this phenomenally successful show with your family, friends or co-workers.

The Choir of Man is the ideal show for a party because it is a party. There’s a working, drink-dispensing bar on stage, nine entertaining singer-dancer-actor-musicians and a catalog of pop hits from the 1970s until this year that will have you singing along from your seats – which is kinda the point.

Enjoy a lager and chat with cast members as the pub comes to life. Then sit back and see why The Choir of Man has become such a phenomenon.

The musical is set in a pub named The Jungle. The characters are members of the pub’s choir. One of the regulars, The Poet, introduces the rest of the characters (The Hardman, The Joker, The Beast, The Hardman, The Maestro, etc.). They, in turn, reveal their stories through song with a set list featuring hits by Adele, Guns n’ Roses, Katie Perry, Rupert Holmes, The Kinks, Sia and more.

The cast members are multi-talented performers who, besides belting out tunes, accompany themselves on guitar and other instruments. They dance. They leap about the stage, keeping the energy and enthusiasm high.

The Choir premiered at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2017. In 2021 The Choir of Man moved to London’s West End, where its reputation as an uplifting, feel-good event helped make it a sensation. It was nominated as Best Entertainment or Comedy Play in 2022 by the Olivier Awards, the U.K.’s equivalent of the Tony Award®.

The show will bring the uniquely British experience of the pub to The Straz, and you can be the proprietor for an evening.

The Choir of Man opens Oct. 3 and is scheduled to run through November. For more info on creating a one-of-a-kind experience for your group, email Groups@strazcenter.org or call (813) 222-1016.
